Old ones were killer, and had more of an 'old guy' sound, fuller and middier, which is good. I hope at least some of that makes sense. I already have a vox valvetronix that has lots of built-in effects so I don't want another digital or effects-laden amp. And I don't like the idea of buying an amp I can't try out first (had a bad experience with that once). I tried to try 2 different marshall class 5s but by the time I decided to get serious about trying them they had both sold. I guess I'm wanting something that can go from vintage 60s marshall to modern rock Marshall for under $500, under $400 preferably. I'm very into vintage British tube amps as I already have 2 vintage Fender tube amps. I also really liked the Blackstar HT-5R but while it had nice cleans and good gain, I felt it was too modern sounding for my tastes. I tried a Laney VC15 which I really liked it had that great tube overdrive sound but alas it sold before I could buy it, and then I tried an Egnater Tweaker 15 head and cab, and while I liked it, it didn't have a distinctly Marshall sound I was looking for, and it was at the top end of my budget at $450. I want something I can play at home that can get that classic marshall gain sound but also be easy to transport (not too big or heavy for a 5'2 girl to struggle to carry) and I wanted to be able to plug the guitar straight into the amp with no pedals and get a nice signature Marshall sound.
